Home Heating Oil
Kerosene (colloquially known as kero), sometimes spelled kerosine in scientific and industrial usage, is also known as paraffin. It can also be referred to as 28 second oil.
It is a thin, clear liquid formed from hydrocarbons, with density of 0.78–0.81 g/cm3 and a flash between 37 and 65 °C. The calorific value of kerosene is similar to that of diesel; its Net value is around 43.1 MJ/kg, and its Gross is 46.2 MJ/kg.
Kerosene is immiscible in water (cold or hot), but miscible in petroleum solvents. Ingestion of kerosene is harmful or fatal.
Kerosene is a commercial / home heating oil. It can be used in most homes that have an indoor boiler and also in ‘Aga’ type cookers. (It is imperative that the correct fuel is inserted into the oil tank feeding the cooker or else damage may occur). It is economical to use, orange/red in colour and relatively clean burning. To ensure it is ‘Wintergrade’ all year round Kerosene is treated with an anti freeze agent (-18max) Vat is charged at 13.5% .
Widely used in oil-fired boilers and cookers, Harmon Oil Ltd provides the most competitively priced kerosene delivered to all towns in Meath, Westmeath and parts of Offaly.
